[00:00:00] CLOCK: the new BBC One clock appears on air for the first time, to introduce the Nine o’Clock News.
The aliasing issues on the ‘BBC 1’ logo were due to technical limitations of the kit used to generate the clock. The problem was addressed by the use of a split screen effect, which allowed the higher quality logo from the COW ident to be overlaid on the clock.
However, not all network announcers/directors used this technique, so the lower quality ‘BBC 1’ logo still often appeared. BBC Scotland addressed the problem from day one, with a permanent split-screen arrangement for the clock output, where the COW logo was also used on the clock.
