[00:00:00] IDENT: subtitled programming was in relatively scare supply in these days. Such was the novelty in the early 80s that the BBC often used a special Ceefax graphic to lead into a subtitled programme.
However, as the number of subtitled programmes increased, it became standard practice to include ‘CEEFAX 170’ text on the channel ident on BBC One, and ‘CEEFAX 270’ on BBC Two’s ident. Until 1985, each channel had its own dedicated subtitles page.
The text on BBC One was usually positioned to the right of the logo. From our experience, it was also usually white and not lime green as in this example.
We also recollect that links into Dallas were sometimes a little less formal than was the norm for programme introductions on BBC One and BBC Two.
