6.35pm Jim’ll Fix It.

7.10pm Nanny. Starring Wendy Craig.

8.05pm The Dick Emery Show.

8.40pm News and Sport.

8.55pm Dallas. The splash Lucy creates with her wedding sets up ripples throughout the family.

9.45pm Parkinson. Michael Parkinson with guests Tommy Trinder, actor Brian Glover and cricket commentator Brian Johnston.

10.45pm The Saturday Film: Dawn! A portrait of controversial Australian Olympic swimmer Dawn Fraser, the only person ever to win three gold medals at consecutive Olympic Games.

Unfortunately, the recording ends just a few seconds before the end of the trail.

The striped ‘BBC 1’ lettering had been used on trails and other captions since the mid-1970s, even though the channel’s ident had ‘BBC 1’ in Futura Bold. Of course, the striped lettering would be introduced to the ident from September.

The striped lettering used for ‘SATURDAY’ would be reworked slightly and used again in autumn 1984.
