Video content
[00:00:00] PROGRAMME: Julia Somerville and John Humphrys signing off at the end of an edition of the BBC Nine o’Clock News.
[00:00:14] PROGRAMME: Rose Neill presents the Northern Ireland News.
And in spite of what Rose says, she wouldn’t be back at the same time the next evening. Programmes were running fifteens later than usual on this Wednesday evening, due to live football coverage earlier.
[00:02:16] PROGRAMME: Michael Fish presents the national weather outlook.
[00:04:46] PROGRAMME PROMOTION: for Spotlight, which looks at the relatively recent resurgence in the popularity of Derry City football club.
The text at the end of the promotion would’ve been overlaid live by the continuity announcer/director and the closing voiceover would’ve been supplied live by the duty announcer.
Note also that whilst the on-screen text reads ‘BBC1 NORTHERN IRELAND’, the announcer refers to the channel as “BBC Northern Ireland”.
Announcers referenced the channel verbally as ‘BBC Northern Ireland’ for over a year. The practice ceased at some point during 1987 when the channel was once again referred to using its full and proper title: BBC One Northern Ireland.
[00:05:25] PROGRAMME GRAPHIC: for The Marriage. This was a copy of the network slide with ‘Northern Ireland’ text added above the ‘BBC1’ logo.
[00:05:37] IDENT: the locally branded version of the COW ident. Linking into an episode of Dynasty II: The Colbys.
[00:05:44] PROGRAMME: part of the opening titles for Dynasty II: The Colbys,
