[00:00:00] IDENT: the BBC Two ident animates into view for a link into a programme about the European team’s victory in the 1985 Ryder Cup golf championship.
In the vast majority of junctions, the ‘TWO’ logo did not animate.
The ‘TWO’ logo could animate on and off. In this example, we see it animating on.
If you look closely, prior to the animation, you’ll see a small black horizontal line on the far left of the white background, just above the position of the ‘TWO’. It disappears the moment the animation is triggered.
When the animation completes, you’ll see a similar black line appear on the far right of frame – this time roughly aligned with the base of the ‘TWO’.
These little black lines typically would not have been visible on domestic TV sets.
The ident was designed by Alan Jeapes.
