[00:00:00] IDENT: BBC One’s special symbol for the Olympics – used for the duration of the 1984 Games.
As can be seen from this example, the ident wasn’t restricted to links into Olympics coverage.
BBC One was often referred to as “The Olympic Channel” during the Games.
The ‘BBC 1’ logo seen here was overlaid from the clock kit. The mechanical device used for this symbol did include a ‘BBC 1’ logo – similar to the standard ident of the time – but some announcers preferred to use the better quality logo from the clock (which was generated electronically).
