The end of the broadcasting day on BBC Two.
Video content
[00:00:00] PROGRAMME: the closing seconds of Son of Frankenstein.
Looks as though the film may have been faded out prematurely here – with cast credits potentially still to follow.
[00:00:32] PROGRAMME GRAPHIC: standard BBC Two slide template – for Horror Double Bill.
The announcer tells us about next Saturday’s double bill of horror:
10.35pm The Mummy.
11.50pm The Ghost of Frankenstein.
[00:01:13] CLOCK: with the BBC Two clock ticking its way to 1.41am, it’s goodnight from BBC Two.
After fading to black and silence, it would be another minute before test tone kicked in (this would usually happen after 30 seconds).
Test tone ran for two-and-a-half minutes (rather than the usual two).
After a little under 25 seconds, the video signal is cut.
However, a little over a minute later, at [00:06:47], the sawtooth test signal appeared, accompanied by test tone.
Over the next 5 minutes, test tone would be switched off and on a number of times and there’d be the odd picture disturbance. Anyone know what was going on here?
At [00:12:02] the video signal was cut again. Soon after, the overnight switch off of the transmitter network would kick in. But our recording terminates before the transmitter is turned off.
