This Day in History: 1999-05-10
BBC TV relaunches the news output on BBC One and BBC Two (with the exception of Breakfast and Newsnight). The Lambie-Nairn agency designed the new look title sequences and associated graphics. The 1pm, 6pm and 9pm programmes (weekdays) and weekend programmes all shared the same studio set – which had a maroon/beige colour scheme, in line with the graphics package. David Lowe composed the new theme tune.
Presenter-wise, Anna Ford would anchor the 1pm programme, Huw Edwards fronted the 6pm programme (the previous incarnation of the programme had two presenters), with Michael Buerk and Peter Sissons continuing to rotate on the 9pm edition. The 6pm Friday edition included a sports segment in the final 5 – 10 minutes, fronted by a sports presenter.
