This Day in History: 1985-07-31

The BBC announces it has pulled the Real Lives programme, At the Edge of the Troubles, from its BBC One schedule. The documentary, produced by Vincent Hanna, featured an interview with Sinn Féin’s Martin McGuinness. The announcement leads to a one-day strike by members of the National Union of Journalists. The ban was eventually overturned. A slightly edited version of the programme would air in October.
