This Day in History: 1999-12-31

The BBC’s 2000 Today programme goes on air. It’s the longest and most ambitious international broadcast (at the time). Up to 5,000 staff worked on the programme: 1,500 of them at BBC Television Centre in West London, where all eight television studios were used during the 28-hour broadcast. 2000 Today had a worldwide audience of 800 million people.
