This Day in History: 1984-10-08

BBC Two introduces an afternoon programme service, to plug the gap between the end of schools programmes and the start of the early evening schedule. This is undoubtedly a reaction to Channel 4’s impending extension of broadcast hours.

BBC Two filled the post-schools slot with repeats (including episodes of Dallas initially) and live sport. By early January 1985, the 3pm – 5.25pm slot was occupied by Pages from Ceefax.
