This Day in History: 1978-12-22

No programmes are broadcast on BBC One and BBC Two for a second day due to industrial action by the ABS union. An apology caption and music is broadcast on both channels. At around 10pm, the dispute is resolved. Programmes would resume on 23rd December 1978. The on-screen apology caption is updated on both channels, as follows: “The BBC has reached agreement with the Association of Broadcasting Staff and normal working will resume at midnight. We will be back on the air tomorrow with our published programmes at 3.00pm on BBC 1 and at 1.30pm on BBC 2.”
