Four minutes of the RTÉ One clock, ticking away during a mid-1980s start-up.

[00:00:00] CLOCK: the RTÉ One clock. The start-up routine during this period would see the clock remain on screen for fifteen minutes prior to the first programme of the day. And it would usually be accompanied by music – though obviously not in our example here.
This mechanical clock, like many similar on-screen devices of the time, was passed through a colour synthesiser. It was sometimes shown yellow on black.
You may notice that the second hand doesn’t land perfectly on the hour markings in our example above. This was later corrected – as can be seen in this April 1985 link, courtesy of the KillianM2 TV Archive channel.
