FROM THE ARCHIVE OF: Dave Baldwin
A very brief clip to demonstrate how pulse and bar was sometimes radiated minus colour burst.
Video content
[00:00:00] TEST SIGNAL: the pulse and bar signal was usually the first sight on BBC One and BBC Two each morning, when the transmitters came back online.
Usually, the blue or green version of pulse and bar was radiated. Occasionally, the colour burst was removed, as we see here.
It was also common practice at this time to remove the colour burst for black and white films.
[00:00:02] TEST CARD: a slight delay with the reinstatement of the colour burst when we switch to the test card.
The recording ends before the music kicks in.
