Victorian times meets modern day in this McEwan’s ad.
Video content
[00:00:00] ADVERTISEMENT: we see a group of Victorian era workers, slaving away. We eventually view them via a videowall, which, it is soon revealed, is situated within a modern day bar, where we see customers sipping on McEwan’s lager.
Towards the end of the ad, the Victorians can suddenly see the present day bar customers – and at the end of their working day, they want a piece of the McEwan’s action too.
They roll a large stone towards the camera, which shatters the videowall. The ad ends at this point. Though the implication is that our Victorian friends will now be able to enter the bar via the shattered video wall (just the minor matter of a massive leap through time).
The message here? Presumably that the appeal of McEwan’s Lager stretches back to Victorian times.
Quite a clever ad for its time.
