This would be the final time a BBC TV channel was blacked out for an entire day by a strike.
[00:00:00] GRAPHIC: an industrial dispute blacked out BBC One for the day.
The strike was in support of 600 scenery shifters, sacked the previous week, after five weeks on the picket lines. The dispute was over a cost-cutting reorganisation of their department.
Permutations of this caption – accompanied by music – was all that went out on BBC One that day.
The music was a selection of Ceefax tapes. The tape playing in this clip is Sunflower.
