[00:00:00] BREAKDOWN GRAPHIC: a power failure affecting BBC Television Centre in London resulted in the national feed of BBC Two going down. Playout centres in Belfast, Cardiff and Glasgow stepped in with breakdown slides and music in their respective nations.
The power failure occurred at c. 9.20pm, taking BBC Two off the air across the UK. I Love 1975 was only twenty minutes in.
Our clip is from BBC Two Northern Ireland (Analogue). We only have a few minutes of the breakdown.
And why does the clip start with the breakdown slide from BBC Two Scotland? Well BBC Northern Ireland Presentation had an issue with the device they played music from in the BBC Two suite. The audio level was higher than it ought to have been and this caused the RBS to kick in at the Divis transmitter (this happened during some local Ceefax in-vision broadcasts too).
The clip has an edit point at [00:02:05].
At [00:05:07] there’s an attempt to rejoin BBC Two network. But we get black and silence. We briefly return to the breakdown slide before the programme finally appears.
[00:05:47] PROGRAMME: we rejoin I Love 1975 around the point where we left it, shortly after 9.20pm.
BBC Two programmes resumed a little later than BBC One.
