Ireland’s third national TV station – TV 3 – launched in September 1998.
Although a teletext system had been in place from launch, it wasn’t until spring the following year that any proper use was made of it. It was used as a programme listings service initially (for TV 3 schedules only).
By late-summer 2000, the first signs of a potential expansion of the service emerged, with the launch of a limited news and sport service.
