Video content
[00:00:00] GRAPHIC: a variation of the standard BBC One Northern Ireland “information” template is used to inform viewers that the permanent closedown of the analogue TV service is imminent.
A pre-recorded announcement by BBC Northern Ireland Head of Presentation, Mark Simpson, conveys the same information to viewers.
[00:00:32] GRAPHIC: a second graphic, providing details of contacts for help/advice regarding digital switchover.
[00:00:57] IDENT: with the 1981 – 1985 BBC One Northern Ireland ident on screen, Mark Simpson tells us briefly about some of the technological developments that took place during the analogue TV era.
The camera then zooms out – and the ident colouring disappears – to reveal the actual mechanical model. It’s positioned on a desk in one of the presentation suites.
As the camera zooms out more, we see various old BBC One Northern Ireland idents on screens in the monitor stack, as well as an animating logo for the new BBC One Northern Ireland HD service, which launches on 24th October.
The closing caption from the final Pages from Ceefax (aired earlier in the week) is also displayed on one of the monitors.
We briefly fade to black.
[00:01:30] GRAPHIC: a white BBC logo is displayed on a black background. Mark Simpson informs viewers that the UK’s analogue TV service is about to close.
His closing statement: “From the analogue television service, goodnight and goodbye.”
We fade to black and remain on black and silence for about 5 seconds.
Just as the BBC logo is faded out, the U-links are removed, triggering the permanent shutdown of the BBC One Northern Ireland analogue transmitters. This is not shown in our clip, which was recorded off digital satellite.
[00:01:48] IDENT: one of the BBC One Northern Ireland-specific, Titanic-themed idents is used to link into the next programme.
