FROM THE ARCHIVE OF: NC1
The final minute or so of an RTÉ 2 start-up, from a Sunday afternoon in 1985.
If anyone out there can help put a date on this clip, we’d be very grateful. Hopefully the reference to the film showing on RTÉ One that day will help.
The standard start-up procedure for RTÉ 2 at the time was: ten minutes of clock and music; ident; in-vision continuity link into the first programme.
[00:00:00] CLOCK: this is a reconfigured version of the original 1978 mechanical clock caption. This updated design was introduced in 1984. Does anyone recognise the music playing here?
[00:00:30] IDENT: this recoloured version of the original RTÉ 2 logo first appeared in 1984 (exact date unknown). Unlike the original ident (which was mechanical), this version was played off tape and was accompanied by a short audio jingle.
[00:00:42] IN-VISION CONTINUITY: does anyone out there know who the announcer is? An in-vision continuity link prior to the first programme was standard practice on RTÉ 2 until the relaunch of the channel in October 1988.
