A daytime start-up on BBC One, ahead of the first edition of News After Noon.
Video content
[00:00:00] IDENT: somewhat unusually for a start-up, the BBC One globe is left on screen for a minute-and-a-half, accompanied by music. Usually, we’d have a brief ident and then a ‘Follows Shortly’ version of a programme slide with music. And then the ident/clock into the programme.
This recording is a couple of days after the striped ‘BBC 1’ logo was introduced to the ident and clock. The rather large ‘BBC 1’ lettering here was reduced in size within weeks.
The track playing here is Rocket Rhythm by Nick Milner, from the Parry Music album Elektronix (PML22).
[00:01:30] CLOCK: 30 seconds of clock leading into the next programme was common – particularly if the programme followed an interval or was part of a channel start-up, as is the case here.

The piece of music is called “Rocket Rhythm” by Nick Milner, from the Parry Music Album “Elektronix” (PML22) from 1979. The track as it appears in the clip is almost complete apart from the first 10-15 seconds which are the same bassline without the synth track on top 馃檪
