[00:00:00] CLOCK: the balloon era clock linking into the news.
[00:00:05] PROGRAMME: the “virtual” opening sequence first seen in 1993. So called because most of what you see in the wide shot didn’t actually exist.
The presenters were added in to this shot, live. However, that didn’t go quite to plan on the day in this example.
Worthy of note here is the inset graphic in use for Martyn Lewis’ opening headline. This was generally in line with the original 1993 design but was updated with the new BBC blocks logo introduced in October 1997.
What we see here is the original October 1997 version of the inset, with a rather large BBC logo – this was reduced in size fairly quickly.
