VIDEO: BBC One continuity followed by BBC Six o’Clock News opening titles. Announcer: Martin King. Presenters: Sue Lawley and Nicholas Witchell. Voiceover: Patrick Lunt. TX DATE: November 1986. COPYRIGHT: BBC.

Video content

[00:00:00] CLOCK: the standard “This is BBC One” announcers’ link into the programme. The clock link for the 6pm weekday news was usually 5 seconds or less.

[00:00:07] PROGRAMME: the titles and opening sequence for this programme remained more or less unaltered during its eight-and-a-half-year run.

The titles were based on the idea of sheets of paper in a filing cabinet. Andy Davy and Terry Hylton worked on the design. The titles were produced in CGI at Cal Videographics in Soho, by animator Gareth Edwards.

The theme tune was written and produced by George Fenton.

Note – there appeared to be a brief glitch that affected Sue’s microphone at the start of the edition featured in this clip.
