The BBC One o’Clock News reports on the IRA ceasefire announcement in 1994.

[00:00:00] CLOCK: announcer Peter Offer introduces the programme.

[00:00:04] PROGRAMME: the programme opens as usual with a short sting featuring the BBC News globe symbol of the time.

We then have visuals from the main story, accompanied by a verbal headline from the presenter before we mix to the opening wide shot of the virtual set. Music is by George Fenton.

The presenter then goes on to introduce the main story – in more detail than usual because of the magnitude of the news. The introductory piece includes a dedicated inset and graphics.

We also see the opening seconds of the programme’s first report, by Denis Murray, the BBC Ireland correspondent.

[00:00:00] PROGRAMME: here we see an example of the in-studio virtual TV screens, allowing the presenter to engage with reporters live at other locations.

Closing the programme, presenter John Tusa points out that there’ll be longer news summaries during the afternoon on BBC Two and an extended edition of the BBC Six o’Clock News on BBC One.

We then have the usual closing visual and audio sting.
