The striped ‘BBC 1’ lettering had been used on trails and other captions since the mid-1970s, even though the channel’s ident had ‘BBC 1’ in Futura Bold. Of course, the striped lettering would be introduced to the ident from September.
The striped lettering used for ‘SATURDAY’ would be reworked slightly and used again in autumn 1984.
