[00:00:00] PROGRAMME GRAPHIC: for Horizon on BBC Two.
The programme concerns itself with the controversial subject of genetic engineering. And in particular, the first ever experiment on a human being – a 21-year-old Israeli lady who was the patient of Dr Martin Cline.
You may be forgiven for thinking this caption is entirely computer-generated. Not so. This was largely produced by hand, with a camera pointing at it, and the programme title added by a character generator.
The visual from the programme would’ve been keyed on – there was possibly a blue area inside the frame. Notice how the image from the programme runs outside the top of the white frame.
[00:00:13] IDENT: announcer Mike Gamble links into the final episode in the current series of Last of the Summer Wine.
The ‘BBC 1’ logo was reduced in size for a period in 1982, to match the proportions of the logo on the clock. The logo on the ident was increased in size again later in the year.
