[00:00:00] PROGRAMME: BBC media correspondent, Nick Higham, reports on Thames TV’s application for the Channel 5 licence, following the original advertisement of the licence in early 1992.
Thames was the main shareholder in a consortium (alongside Warner Bros. Television and others) called Channel Five Holdings.
Two other groups withdrew their applications for the licence, leaving the Thames consortium the only bidder.
The Independent Television Commission (ITC) rejected the bid due to concerns about its business plan and investor backing.
Nick Higham’s package includes comments from Moses Znaimer (City TV, Toronto) and Richard Dunn (Thames TV).
