[00:04:24] PROGRAMME MENU GRAPHIC: the announcer talks us through the programme line-up for New Year’s Day evening on BBC Two.

[00:04:59] CLOCK: with new year wishes from the announcer, it’s goodnight from BBC Two.

After the usual 30 seconds or so of black and silence, test tone is faded up. This would run for 2 minutes (albeit there were a couple of brief glitches along the way).

At [00:09:02] the video signal is cut, triggering the overnight shutdown of the transmitter network.
