BBC One updates its ident with Olympics branding for the duration of the 1984 Olympics.

[00:00:00] IDENT: unfortunately, we don’t have the full closedown sequence. The ident here is still a mechanical device, with the camera output passed through a colour synthesiser. And curiously, adopting the colour scheme of the 1974 – 1981 BBC One ident.
It should be noted that in this example, the ‘BBC 1’ logo is from the BBC One clock kit, and it has been overlaid here using a split screen effect.
Did Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales take the network ident for the duration of the games? Did they use their own standard BBC One ident? Or, did they create their own Olympics-branded ident? Do let us know if you have any recollections about this.
Andrew Nairn recalls what happened on BBC One Scotland: “The normal BBC Scotland globe was used during the Olympics but they voiced the network symbol before Olympic Grandstand.
“Obviously we saw plenty of the special ident during the day though when we were getting network continuity.”
