Announcer David Miles asks us not to unplug our set just yet.
Video content
[00:00:00] CLOCK: announcer David Miles starts his closedown routine by asking viewers if they remember when the announcer used to remind them to unplug their set at closedown.
Of course, the announcer’s reminder to unplug the TV set at closedown wasn’t something you would’ve heard from network BBC One and BBC Two announcers.
Although it was more common on ITV regional stations, the BBC English regions used to include such a reminder too, in the days when the English regions provided local continuity on BBC One.
David goes on to inform viewers about what’s currently on offer across the national BBC radio networks – and adds a reminder about the jazz currently on BBC Two.
[00:00:43] IDENT: the BBC One globe is accompanied by the National Anthem.
Apologies for the intermittent glitches on sound on this off-air recording.
