Test Signal

Not to be confused with a test card, which is regarded as a TV channel’s standard downtime test pattern. Test signals are other test patterns/mechanisms that are used for specific technical reasons and are generally broadcast for short periods – for example, as part of an engineering test. Examples: pulse and bar; sawtooth.
